Originals and VegNonVeg have turned the Samba into an open-back mule, reshaping one of adidas’ most recognizable silhouettes through the lens of the Jutti, a traditional Indian slip-on. The New Delhi retailer keeps the Samba instantly readable while rebuilding it around the ritual of stepping in and out of a shoe, and releases it in two colorways.
The construction is where the two references meet. VegNonVeg retains the Samba’s signature T-toe but extends it into a pointed, padded tongue, a detail that pulls the football silhouette toward the shape of a Jutti. The heel is cut away entirely to make it a mule, and the upper is built from premium leather finished with invisible stitching for a clean surface. Contrast cream Three Stripes keep the adidas identity legible against the darker leather.
The Indian influence runs through the smaller details rather than sitting on the surface. Tonal botanical embroidery, which the brand ties to ideas of growth, community and roots, is worked into the upper, joined by a gold Trefoil rendered as a flower and gold foil SAMBA and VegNonVeg branding. A red lining, drawn from traditional Juttis, adds a hidden flash of color. The theme continues underfoot with mismatched insoles, one green and one red to represent the Veg and NonVeg halves of the retailer’s name, each carrying Jutti-style ornamentation of the brand’s leaf-tree motif along with the printed messages “From VegNonVeg with Love” and “To India and Beyond.” A gum rubber outsole closes out the build.
